Alweer dag 5! Richting Arnhem; Operation Market Garden
The longest stage. The one everyone fears, yet longs to finish. 81 kilometers from Eindhoven to Nijmegen, the longest and most demanding stage of the event. A day where endurance, resilience, and determination are tested like never before.
The journey began in the sandy forests near Eindhoven, where the sound of bagpipes echoed through the trees as the first steps were taken.
Much of today’s stage followed the path of the famous “Hell’s Highway”, the vital supply route used by Allied forces during Operation Market Garden in September 1944. Along these roads, thousands of soldiers advanced north in an ambitious attempt to liberate the Netherlands and secure a bridgehead into Germany. What was once a battlefield has become a route of remembrance, challenge, and reflection.
The trail seemed endless, winding through forests, open farmlands, maize fields, village roads, riverbanks, and wide-open plains. And when you Neede the support the most, family and friends were there along the route, ready with support and encouragement needed to keep moving forward.
And finally 81 kilometers completed. One stage closer to the finish.
